چکیده

Low-energy forward-recoil spectrometry studies show that the interface between polystyrene sAd and a miscible blend of two poly(styrene-co-4-bromostyrene)s sB:Cd has an interfacial excess of B, z B, where B is the component with the lower bromostyrene level. At 170 ±C, z B increases with the bulk volume fraction of B, fB`, has a maximum near 0.25, and then decreases. These results are in qualitative agreement with self-consistent field (SCF) calculations. SCF calculations of the interfacial tension and interfacial width predict that B has an optimum compatibilizing effect for fB` , 0.25.

Effect of Molecular Weight on the Interfacial Excess, Tension, and Width in a Homopolymer/Binary Polymer Blend System

The interfacial properties of a three-component, two-phase A/B:C blend are investigated to understand the effect of the A and B chain lengths on the interfacial excess of B, zB*, the interfacial tension, γABC, and the interfacial width, wABC. The A/B:C components are polystyrene/poly(d8-styreneco-4-bromostyrene):poly(styrene-co-4-bromostyrene), where B and C have 4-bromostyrene mole fractions o...

We present the results of kinetic Monte Carlo simulations aimed at exploring the effect of copolymer sequence distribution on the dynamics of phase separation of an immiscible A/B binary homopolymer blend. Diblock, protein-like copolymers (PLCs), simple linear gradient, random, and alternating copolymers having equal number of A and B segments, identical chemical composition, and chain length a...

Phase Behavior of Ternary Homopolymer/Diblock Blends: Microphase Unbinding in the Symmetric System

We consider the phase behavior of a symmetric AB diblock, blended with corresponding A and B homopolymers, all of equal chain length. Evaluating the phase diagram in mean-field theory at all compositions of the ternary blend, we find no hexagonal and cubic phases. However, up to three distinct lamellar phases can coexist, one being symmetric and the other two being asymmetric. For strong incomp...

Lifshitz points in blends of AB and BC diblock copolymers

– We consider microand macro-phase separation in blends of AB and BC flexible diblock copolymers. We show that, depending on architecture, a number of phase diagram topologies are possible. Microphase separation or macrophase separation can occur, and there are a variety of possible Lifshitz points. Because of the rich parameter space, Lifshitz points of multiple order are possible. We demonstr...

Effect of Random and Block Copolymer Additives on a Homopolymer Blend Studied by Small-Angle Neutron Scattering

Small-angle neutron scattering (SANS) has been employed to study a blend of polystyrene and polybutadiene modified by copolymer additives. SANS data from the one-phase region approaching the phase boundary has been acquired for blends modified by random and diblock copolymers that have equal amounts of styrene and butadiene monomers as well as a random copolymer with an unequal monomer composit...
